From a Professional Ambition to a Personal Development Plan
Wanting to become a capable doctor is a meaningful ambition, but it is too broad to organise a week of learning. A personal development plan connects the ambition with a specific capability you want to improve. It should help you choose an action, not predict every stage of your career.

Applicants in Malaysia considering Sechenov University’s Leaders in Health Innovations programme can use this exercise to explore its emphasis on individual development, medical knowledge and leadership.
Identify the capability behind the ambition
Choose something you want to do more effectively: explain a concept, organise a group task or interpret an educational source. Describe a recent example that shows why the capability matters. Avoid a permanent label such as “I am bad at communication”; name the behaviour you want to change.
Then ask what background knowledge or support is needed. A planning difficulty and an unclear scientific concept require different next steps.
Select a practice action
Choose an action small enough to review. You might prepare a diagram and explain it to a peer, or rewrite a summary after checking the source. Decide what you will look for afterwards: a clearer connection, a more accurate account or a question that is now better defined.
The programme overview describes curator support and individual learning opportunities. Ask how those features currently work rather than assuming a particular personal plan or meeting schedule.
Review the plan as you learn
After trying the action, record what changed. Adjust the goal if the task revealed a different difficulty. A development plan should evolve with your understanding, leaving room for new interests and appropriate academic guidance.
